I asked Ben for advice; things are going differently than planned. 

After the conversation, Ben offered me a better job, and I accepted. Still, Linda made me remember why I decided to become a salesman, as well as the successful Dave Singleman. The hesitation got the better of me, and I ended up turning down this offer, even though my brother was determined.

Ben may be having better luck than me, but this job is just as fortunate as Ben's. I'm convinced that in the future our lives will take another course, the course of success.

November 21, 1936

October 21, 1936 Today, the boys mentioned the "Florida idea". Moving to the country, buying a house in a field, building two guest houses for the boys and their wives, planting my own vegetables, and living comfortably. The simple idea of working in Florida fascinates me! I wanted to meet with my boss with the intention of asking him for a job, I need to improve the economic situation of this family before that happens. Despite having told him that it didn't matter if the salary was low, his answer was the same: "there are no vacancies available at the moment, Willy." Those glory days, when I worked with Howard's father, that year when I earned a lot of money from sales... It seemed as if I didn't deserve it, as if my dream was unattainable.  Howard opened his mouth, yet the words that awaited me did not express good news. My position in the company was no longer needed.
